Today I have decided to create a step-by-step guide for installing Windows 7. For that, I will be using VMWare as the virtual system. If you need to install VMWare on your system you can refer to our guide – How to install VMWare workstation on Windows 10.
The first step is to download Windows 7. You can get it using this Windows 7 Download link. I am downloading the 64bit version of Windows 7. Let’s start.
Here are my VMWare settings for Windows 7 installation. I am using 2 GB for memory and the default 60GB for the hard disk. In the future, I will be using this system to create other guides and might do some changes if needed.

As this is a VM with one hard disk and this is a new installation I will press the Install now button to start the Windows 7 installation.
I will be doing another guide regarding the Repair your computer option in the near future.

Windows 7 License and Terms Agreement screen. Please read carefully the Microsoft terms and license for Windows 7. If you agree with the terms and license mark I accept the license terms and press the next button. If not we can’t continue with the installation and need to exit this setup.
As mentioned above, this is a new installation of Windows 7. I am selecting the second option – Custom: Install Windows Only. Once selected the installation will continue.
I am using the defaults. Press Next to continue with the installation. In general, everything here will be managed by the installation. It will use the full hard disk space for installing Windows 7.

Now we wait. The installation is running, preparing the hard disk, and installing the necessary files for our new Windows 7 system.
You will be asked to set your name. This name will be the name you will use for your Windows 7 system login. The name you enter will be automatically added to the computer name with the PC in it – <name>-PC. If you like you can set your own system name.
Next is the password. You need to set a password for the user to login into the system. Retype it and add a hint as a password reminder.
If you have a product key you can enter it now. If you prefer to enter it at another time. You can press the Skip button. If you do enter a product key you can mark the Automatically activate Windows when I’m online. Note that Windows 7 is End Of Life.
We will be using the recommended setting. We can always change it, if we need or want to, once Windows is ready to use.
Set your Time zone and Date.
As someone that considers security I prefer to use the Public network just to be on the safe side.
